Abstract

The article discusses the history and development of Ukrainian orthography. It describes the main stages of the formation of spelling rules and their role in the development of the Ukrainian language. Special attention is given to the reforms of the twentieth century and the modern edition of Ukrainian Orthography adopted in 2019. The importance of orthography for the standardization and preservation of the Ukrainian literary language is emphasized.
