The report considers the prospects for research into water quality monitoring sensors based on total internal reflection. A review of modern methods and approaches to water quality assessment is made, a generalized classification of water monitoring sensors is presented. The principles of operation of water quality monitoring sensors based on total internal reflection are disclosed, and their sensitivity based on experimental data is estimated.
