Особливості та труднощі перекладу науково-технічних текстів

Abstract

The article examines the defining features and key challenges of scientific and technical text translation. Unlike literary translation, the technical type prioritizes terminological exactness, stylistic neutrality, and subject-domain competence over creative freedom. The formal-logical style of such texts characterized by impersonality, passive constructions, and dense specialized vocabulary-sets distinct requirements for the translator. The study systematizes the main difficulties: terminological polysemy, competing regional equivalents, unjustified acronym use, syntactically complex multi-component noun phrases, as well as lexical and syntactic challenges identified in empirical research on student translators. The paper draws on Ukrainian and international scholarship to conclude that quality technical translation demands both linguistic competence and domain expertise, supported by standardized terminology resources and translator training.
