Abstract

The paper deals with a comparative analysis of the two most commonly used bit rate estimators, namely the average entropy of the quantized DCT coefficients and the percentage of the DCT coefficients quantized to zero. To obtain the experimental dependencies, test images in the PGM format of size 512×512 pixels were used. The images were conditionally divided into two categories: texture like and monotonous. For both types of images, a fairly high degree of accuracy was achieved by the considered linear predictive models.
