Abstract

This paper examines the ESP32 microcontroller as a platform for building smart home systems. The concept of a smart home is introduced, highlighting its role in improving comfort, energy efficiency, and residential security. The technical characteristics of the ESP32 are outlined, including built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a rich set of peripheral interfaces. Practical implementation scenarios are presented, covering climate control, smart lighting, security systems, environmental monitoring, and integration with platforms such as Home Assistant. The paper concludes that ESP32 represents a cost-effective and versatile solution for IoT-based home automation, with promising prospects in the areas of the Matter protocol and on-device machine learning.
