Abstract

A method is developed for selecting the sodar frequency for an arbitrary spectrum of acoustic noise. From the acoustic location equation, a general expression for the signal-to-noise ratio is obtained. The strong influence of the noise power spectral decline factor on the optimum sodar frequency is revealed. This points to the particular importance of optimizing the frequency of sodar in areas with high noise pollution. The actual noise spectrum differs from that adopted as a model. In addition, the noise is non-stationary, which requires a periodic evaluation of its spectrum.
