Abstract

То the question "What is the primary of world?" philosophers from all over the world have been trying to give the right answer for millennia. I reviewed the views of Pythagoras and his followers on this question. He believes that the basis of all is the number. Pythagoras compares comparing the concept of "point" and “one”, showing that on two points one can construct a straight line, and three - a plane, and four - space. Because of this property, the philosopher compares the unit with the goddess. And also, the “two” symbolizes the principle of opposites. The “three” is a symbol of nature that forms the body, being the triune of the first principle and its contradictory sides. In turn, the “four” is an image of four elements of nature.
