Morally weak people, through aggression and lust for conquest, became a mass and lost what little freedom they had left. Christian dogmas and traditions were squeezed out by lust for revenge, personality cults and ideological wars. The humiliation of man reached a climax: in man the creator was killed, leaving a hollow performer. Regimes fell one by one, but the spectre of totalitarianism remained.
