The key advantages of CALS are highlighted, including integration of all product data into single repository, accelerated exchange of up-to-date data, elimination of information loss and duplication, and improvement of product quality. The article describes in detail role of product data management system (PDM) as technological core of single information space. The main functional groups of PDM system are presented. The use of interactive electronic technical manuals to provide consumers with access to product performance data is also considered. The advantages and difficulties of implementing IETM are analyzed.
